Coming from an underprivileged background in Vietnam, Mai Bui experienced the transformative power of education, epecially for girls and women. Her research centers on exploring and supporting pre-service and in-service teachers in learning to notice students’ mathematical thinking. Through helping teachers look deeply into students’ minds and disregard their unconscious race and gender bias, her research aims to resolve the root of inequity in mathematics education.
